    Our History

In 1850 the First Baptist of Anna was organized in the home of Milton Mugg. who lived a few miles west of Anna.  It was then called "Friendship" with eight charter members, namely:  John Coffman, Elizabeth Coffman, Milton Mugg, Catherine Mugg, Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Bruce, Joe Wilcox and Adamson Wilcox.  At first worship services were held in their homes.

The first church building was a small log structure at what is now Highland Cemetery.  The next location was about a mile south of Anna. The next move was to the Anna school grounds.  In 1912 the church, now named First Baptist, relocated across Interurban Street and east of the present sanctuary.  In 1979  a move was made to the present location.

There were pastors, deacons, laymen, women and children who endured hardships of all kinds.  They cut timber, built log cabins, cleared land, worked fields and bowed to worship on a dirt floor.  They endured all these trials and through faith made plans for a church. We are truly grateful, we the heirs of these ancestors, and members of First Baptist Church, for their courage, enduring faith and a great spirit to press forward for an all powerful and loving God.

During these 159 years there have been forty-eight pastors and seventy-eight deacons, four Foreign Missionaries, three Chaplains, along with many, many teachers and numerous members that have served and supported this church. They have been faithful to God's calling and command to "Go and Tell."
